BiographyGrowing up in a musical household, Claudia adored singing from an early age. Her childhood nickname was ‘Birdie’, so named since her mum and dad would find her lying awake in her cot singing, well before she could talk. She loved to rifle through her mum’s songbooks, picking out tunes to sing with her sisters. She’d hum along to tunes dreamed up in her head and harmonise with whatever was playing on the radio. After high school, it was upon joining her singing teacher’s a cappella group that Claudia began developing her song-writing talent. Claudia took the tunes that played in her head, and started to string together lyrics and harmonies. Her dictaphone became a constant companion to capture her creativity wherever and whenever it flowed. She once accompanied a friend on a road trip around the US on the proviso she’d get plenty of “road time” to write songs as they drove. Nine thousand miles later, she had enough lyrical fodder to last a lifetime. Since 2003 she has penned lyrics and sung with electronic act Substax, who released an album in 2005 (look them up on Amplifier to hear their tunes). In 2006, becoming a mum inspired Claudia to tailor her melodic indie-folk songs to a younger audience. Claudia continues to write and record in her home studio, and she is currently working on her debut Children’s release as well as other songs that are nagging to be completed and recording new Substax tracks too.
