Introducing a songwriter whose tunes will sneak their way under your skin. Lullabies for bedtime, or dance til the morning light, and 360 degrees in between.
Claudia is the vocalist for electronic act Substax and an award winning writer of children's songs.
Claudia adored singing from an early age. Her childhood nickname was ‘Birdie’, so named since her mum and dad would find her lying awake in her cot singing, well before she could talk. This led on to an equally musical childhood, surrounded by singing sisters, aunties, cousins, and of course her Mum, a singer in an '80's rock n roll band. And not to forget Dad, whose record collection epitomised cool to a young and impressionable budding songwriter. Everything from The Doors to Peter Tosh, Grace Jones to Janis Joplin.
In 2006, becoming a mum herself inspired Claudia to tailor some songs to a younger audience. 'Lullaby Time', written for her son Dylan, was joint winner of the 2008 APRA Children's Song of the Year Award. Then daughter Ella Grace came along to become the muse for her lullabies and Claudia made her four-string debut on 'Home Sweet Home', for which she won the 2010 APRA Children's Song of the Year.
Claudia is currently completing tracks for her childrens album which has the working title 'the music box' as well as continuing to record new material with Substax.
While her primary instrument is her voice, she accompanies herself with a Cole Clark acoustic guitar, a white Mahalo ukulele she borrows from her son Dylan and her latest sea shanty was recorded with a concert size Kala uke. She records in the spare room when the kids are sleeping.
